SoundWaters Tall Ships Ball at Riverside Yacht Club in Riverside, CT

The annual SoundWaters Tall Ships Ball at Riverside Yacht Club continues to be one of the most fun and energetic fundraisers we’re a part of each year.

This year’s Broadway theme gave guests every excuse to fully commit to the experience, and they absolutely did.

From themed outfits inspired by favorite productions to packed dance floors and nonstop interaction throughout cocktail hour, the energy carried from the beginning of the night all the way through the final song.

Roaming Photo Booth During Cocktail Hour

For cocktail hour, we brought out our newest roaming photo booth setup, which immediately became a conversation piece on its own.

Guests were fascinated by the lighting, the mobility of the setup, and how quickly they could receive photos directly to their phones without ever needing to leave the flow of the event.

That’s one of the biggest advantages of roaming experiences. Instead of waiting for guests to approach a fixed activation, the experience naturally integrates into the event itself.

We also had one of our newest attendants working with the roaming setup during the opening portion of the evening, and she did a fantastic job interacting with guests and keeping the energy moving naturally throughout the room.

Studio-Style Portraits With a Black Backdrop

Inside the main event space, we created a stationary photo booth experience featuring three-pose 4 x 6 prints against a black backdrop.

Black backdrops can create incredibly clean and dramatic portraits, but they can also be surprisingly difficult to photograph properly without understanding subject separation and supplemental lighting.

This is one of the areas where photography experience makes a major difference.

At one point, we even demonstrated a before-and-after example using one of our attendants dressed entirely in black against the backdrop. Without proper lighting, the subject blended heavily into the background. Once supplemental lighting was introduced, the separation completely transformed the image.

Good event photography is not just about owning equipment. It’s about understanding how to shape light and create depth in challenging environments.

The final images from the event came out beautifully.

A Crowd That Fully Leaned Into the Theme

One of the things that makes this fundraiser so much fun every year is how willing guests are to participate.

The Broadway theme gave people permission to be playful, expressive, and fully immersed in the event. From roaming sessions during cocktail hour to studio-style portraits later in the night, guests consistently brought incredible energy to every interaction.

That participation is what ultimately makes themed events successful.

The Short Bus Kept the Dance Floor Moving

As always, The Short Bus brought an incredible amount of energy to the night.

Their mix of music kept the dance floor packed and helped maintain momentum throughout the event. Between the band, the themed attire, the lighting, and the guest interaction, the entire evening felt cohesive from beginning to end.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

Every year, the SoundWaters gala brings a completely different personality depending on the theme, the guests, and the atmosphere created throughout the evening.

This year’s Broadway-inspired event was one of our favorites yet, and we’re already looking forward to seeing what next year’s Tall Ships Ball brings.
