A Real-Time Lesson in Adaptability
Our recent holiday photo booth event in a school gymnasium became a reminder of how unpredictable live events can be. What began as a simple setup quickly shifted when we discovered that our flash could trigger the building’s fire alarm system.
Adjusting the Setup
We had arrived early, completed our setup, and taken initial test shots when we learned about the flash sensitivity. Rather than risk a disruption, we switched off the flash and began reworking our approach. Shooting in a gym without controlled lighting requires careful adjustments to exposure, positioning, and camera settings to maintain quality and consistency.
Working With Available Light
Gymnasium lighting is rarely ideal for photography, but with the right adjustments, it is still possible to achieve strong results. We tested the available lighting, refined the setup, and within minutes were able to continue the event without interruption.
It was a meaningful reminder that even when conditions change unexpectedly, preparation and experience ensure that the event stays on track and the memories are preserved.
